“Touching Tomorrow Today” The mission of First Baptist Church, Weber City, is to build the Kingdom of God in Weber City, the Tri-Cities and around the world, as He would have us do. First Baptist was started by two women who began a Sunday school in the basement of a house in Weber City. As it grew it became a small block building, which served the members for several years. That church was known as Gateway Baptist and it gave way in 1953 to the name of First Baptist Church of Weber City. This church was founded on a strong faith in God’s leadership, and our church has always been willing to step out in faith. We have been and continue to be motivated by a need to worship God, study the Scriptures, and fellowship together as a community of faith. From the classes held in the basement of the little block church, to the educational building, to the sanctuary of today, there has been success spiritually as well as numerically. Many ministers and Christian workers grew up and got their start in this church and some are here helping us today. Each time we have reached a crossroad, our people have stepped out in faith and today they continue to follow God’s leadership into the ministry future of our church. In the 70’s we started a bus ministry and on a particular Sunday enough money was raised in the morning worship service to buy two buses and start that rewarding ministry. Later we initiated a summer church camp for a week at the Methodist Campground in Fort Blackmore. This became a highlight for several years and many were saved and spiritual growth was impacted by this event. Now, we need to look at the present and see the new ministries of AWANA and Upward Basketball and how they are touching many new families with God’s love. Each time we have reached these situations, our people have once again looked into the future along with our physical needs to further the exciting times we are experiencing. There is a great opportunity for our church to engage the community for the first time in many years because our elementary school is expanding. Our county has stopped the decline in population growth and has started to grow again. Many new homes are being built and young families are being started. We must prepare a place for them to come and worship God. We now have a detailed plan for building Phase One, or our Family Life Center, which will be built behind the church. Not only will this new building serve as gymnasium for the Upward Basketball, AWANA and other ministries, it will house a new commercial kitchen, additional classroom space, expanded restrooms, bleachers and a stage area. This building will also serve as a Fellowship Hall that will accommodate up to 350 people at tables. Every step has been done in a professional manner. Now we are approaching the time of commitment to carry out the plan. The total cost of our phase one building project is estimated at $1.2 million of which $175,000 has been raised. The plan to build the Family Life Center first is due to the many children and families now coming to our church and the many ministries requiring additional space. The construction date will be set as soon as the financial arrangements are made following our commitment campaign. In order to accomplish the task before us, we need to commit to proper stewardship. We should not take funds from our current ministry/operating budget to fund this project. Also, no long-term debt with heavy debt servicing should burden future generations. By applying the motto “Equal Sacrifice, Not Equal Gifts” we can learn how each person can participate in funding this important project. “Touching Tomorrow Today” is a slogan that simply says, as Christians, we should follow the leadership of God and work today to impact the lives of those that will come tomorrow. This campaign will give every household an opportunity to give over and above your ongoing tithes and offerings. We will be asking you to make a sacrificial commitment to be given over the next three years. Each person is asked to prayerfully seek God’s will in his or her life as it relates to participation in this program. No one will be told what amount to give. No one will come to your home and pressure you into participating in this program. Your decision to participate will be as personal and private as we can possibly make it for you. A successful campaign will allow the church to financially underwrite the proposed project with as little debt as possible. This will protect our current ministries/operating budget. The “Touching Tomorrow Today” campaign will allow our church to respond in faith to the challenges and opportunities before them. It will give each of us the opportunity to seek and know God more deeply and respond in faith to His leadership. In addition to our Campaign Kick-Off on March 20th, please plan to attend Sunday school and Worship each Sunday in April for special lessons and sermons concerning stewardship. We will also be conducting prayer walks to give you more insight into where the Family Life Center will be located, the size of the building, and the ministries that will be operated in the new facility. Celebration Sunday will be May 1st. You don’t want to miss it! This will be a wonderful day in the life of our church. We will come together to celebrate God’s blessings and our commitment to the future of First Baptist Weber City. We will have a wonderful time of fellowship following the morning service. So please mark your calendars to be here on that day. |
